Failed Diplomacy

July 17, 2007

Charles L. Pritchard presented the findings of his book, Failed Diplomacy: The Tragic Story of How North Korea Got the Bomb (Brookings Press, Washington D.C.) to a gathered audience providing personal insight and professional analysis of U.S.-DPRK relations since 2002. He was uniquely placed within both the Clinton and Bush administrations to be intimately involved in the development of U.S. policy toward North Korea through August 2003, holding positions such as director of Asian affairs on the National Security Council, special envoy for North Korea at the State Department, and U.S. representative to the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO). His book and discussion provided a greater understanding for all students and scholars of the Korea peninsula and U.S. foreign diplomacy of the development of the nuclear crisis. Ambassador Prtichard’s and Don Oberdorfer’s, Chairman of the U.S.-Korea Institute and author of The Two Koreas, commentary also took the latest developments in the six-party talks and looked forward at the potential for failure or success. Read the transcript.
